Panama tops Italy, earns first win at U-12 Baseball World Cup
Panama got to Italy's starter Sabrina Bottazzi, the first girl to pitch in a game in this edition of the U-12 World Cup, and never needed to look back.
Panama used five innings to shut out Italy and earned their first win in the VI WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup, after suffering two walk-off, one-run losses.
Italy's starter Sabrina Bottazzi became the first girl to start a game of the VI WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup. Panama got to her in the third with a couple of doubles by center fielder Jaime Escudero and first baseman Joswal Guerra. The starter left with the bases loaded, and Panama broke the score open against reliever Antonio Vaio.
Edward Delgado went the distance for Panama, allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out two.
Both Italy and Panama have 1-2 records after three days of action in Group A. Italy faces Mexico on Monday, while Panama goes head-to-head with Venezuela.
