Peru awarded wild card for WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup

The World No. 19 will be the fifth Americas nation in the WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup, scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from 21 to 29 October.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) awarded a wild card to Peru to participate in the WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup, scheduled to take place from 21 to 29 October in Tokyo, Japan. The world No. 19 becomes the fifth participating team from the Americas in the maiden edition of the event.

Peru hosted the 10-team Americas Qualifier for the World Cup in April, finishing in sixth place. In this tournament, USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Brazil earned a spot in the World Cup as the top four teams in the continent.

Two more squads will advance to the World Cup from the Asia Qualifier, set to take place from 13 to 17 June at the Fu-Hsing Softball Stadium in Puli Township in Nantou, Taiwan with participating teams Hong Kong-China, India, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Singapore and host Chinese Taipei.

The first-ever WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup will be played in three Tokyo stadiums: Komazawa Olympic Park Sports Complex Baseball Stadium in Setagaya Ward, Ota Stadium in Ota Ward and Setagaya City Okura Sports Center Baseball Ground.

The appointment of Tokyo as hosts of the WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup, a youth-focused event, two years on from its successful softball competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, adds to the legacy of the Tokyo Games, which saw Japan claim the gold medal after beating USA in the final.
