Philippines looking to break into Top 10 of WBSC Women's Baseball World Rankings

The Philippines Women's National Baseball Team is currently ranked 15th in the world. Some softball players will transition to women's baseball to make the WBSC Women's World Cup roster.

Rodolfo Tingzon, the Vice President of the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA), said during an online forum of the Philippine Sportswriters Association that the Philippines National Women's Baseball Team is aiming to break into the top 10 of the WBSC World Rankings during the 2021 season.

The Philippines are the current No. 15 in the WBSC Women's Baseball Rankings, behind Mexico and ahead of China. Japan is ranked No. 1.

Secretary-General Jose Antonio Munoz added that PABA plans on adding softball players to reinforce the squad.

"They may not have a lot of baseball experience, but I'm confident they can make us a contender," Munoz said.

The Philippines are amongst the nations qualified for the ninth WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup. The tournament, originally scheduled for the fall of 2020 in Mexico, has been postponed to March 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
