Former Major League Baseball (MLB) superstar Scott Brosius, who managed the United States at the WBSC Premier12 2019, is the new Linfield University Athletic Director. His tenure started on Monday, 13 May,

Born in Hillsboro, Oregon, on 15 August 1966, Brosius was a junior at Linfield University, a private liberal arts college, when the Oakland A's drafted him in 1987.

He made his MLB debut on August 7 1991 and homered in his first game. The A's traded Brosius to the New York Yankees after the 1997 season. As a Yankee, Brosius would earn a trip to the All-Star Game (1998), a Gold Glove at third base (1999) and three World Series titles (1998, 1999 and 2000). He was honoured as the 1998 World Series MVP.

After retiring as a player, Brosius returned to Linfield University to finish his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He was inducted into the Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002 and became the head coach in 2007. He led the Wildcats to three Division III World Series and won the title in 2013.

"I bleed Linfield purple and I'm a Wildcat for life," Brosius told the Linfield University website. "I'm deeply honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility for a department so rich in history and success. I look forward to working with our coaches, athletes, administrators, faculty members, and supporters to make the next era in Wildcat athletics the most successful one yet. I can't wait to get started."

"I'm delighted that Scott Brosius will be returning to Linfield as our new athletic director," commented Rebecca L. Johnson, Linfield's interim President. "I know Scott shares our values for student-athlete success in the classroom and competition. He will work with me and others across campus to ensure that each and every team, coach and student-athlete has the support they need for success."
