World No. 2 USA and No. 4 Chinese Taipei are the final two teams remaining in the U-18 World Cup, which started off 2018 with 38 aspiring teams in the continental qualifiers.

GIJANG, Korea — Game 50, the Final, of the XXIX WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2019 today at Gijang-Hyundai Dream Ballpark will determine baseball’s official World Champions and best team in the respective age group (15-18 years old).

The World Championship game, which is scheduled for 6:00 pm local KST time, will be live-streamed on WBSC’s official YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/tkEuvezmpUM. The Final will also be broadcast live via Taiwan’s largest sports station, Videoland.

Historic notes and Preview:

  • Chinese Taipei and USA are set to play each other in the U-18 World Cup Final for the fourth time: 1983 (won by Chinese Taipei), 1995, 1999 (won by USA) and 2019 (TBD).
  • USA has won its last four U-18 World Cup games against Chinese Taipei, since a 4-1 defeat in the opening round in 2006.
  • USA topped Chinese Taipei, 8-1, in their Opening Round contest in Gijang.
  • With a win in the Final, USA would become World Champions for the 10th time in the history of the U-18 World Cup, one shy of current record holders Cuba (11).
  • USA is also trying to become the first team to win the U-18 World Cup five times in a row.
  • Chinese Taipei could claim a third World Cup title, after capturing the world titles in 1983 and 2010.
  • USA have been World Champions in the U-18 category since 2012.
  • Chinese Taipei’s best finish in recent years was 3rd Place at the 2013 U-18 Baseball World Cup, which was played on home soil in Taichung.
