Puerto Rico and Japan to meet in Bronze Medal game, USA advances to Gold Medal game at WBSC Jr. Women’s Softball World Championship

CLEARWATER, FL, USA — World No. 1 Japan and No. 7 Puerto Rico will meet tomorrow, 30 July, in the bronze medal match of the 2017 WBSC Jr. Women’s Softball World Championship.

CLEARWATER, FL, USA — World No. 1 Japan and No. 7 Puerto Rico will meet tomorrow, 30 July, in the bronze medal match of the 2017 WBSC Jr. Women’s Softball World Championship. The winner will then face No. 2 USA in the world championship gold medal game, whereas the loser will be awarded the bronze.

Sunday will crown the world champion after 100 games of tournament play, which began on 24 July with a record-high 26 nations from around the globe.

ROAD TO THE FINALS

USA (6-0) finished atop Pool A to qualify into the Championship Round. In the playoffs, they defeated Puerto Rico 8-3 to advance to the semi-final against Japan.

Japan (6-0) finished atop Pool B to qualify into the Championship Round. In the playoffs, they defeated Canada 8-7 to advance to the semi-final game against USA.

Puerto Rico (5-0) finished atop Pool C to qualify into the Championship Round. In the playoffs, they lost to USA 8-3, forcing an extra game. They then defeated China 7-0 to advance to the semi-final game against Canada.

In the first semi-final game, USA defeated Japan 4-1 to advance to the gold medal game. Japan’s loss pushed them into the bronze medal game.

In the second semi-final game, Puerto Rico defeated Canada 6-5 to face Japan in the bronze medal match.

The 12th Jr. Women’s Softball World Championship in Clearwater has brought together a record-high 26 national teams from all five regions, as seven nations are making their junior women’s world championship debuts.
