Puerto Rico Baseball Federation launches Baseball5 development program
“It’s time to join the Baseball5 global movement, a discipline with a ton of potential,” said FBPR President, Jose Quiles.
The Puerto Rican Baseball Federation (FBPR) launched a Baseball5 development program on the island, aiming to promote and grow the game across Puerto Rico. The FBPR named Carlos Principe the coordinator of the program.
“It’s time to join the Baseball5 global movement, a discipline with a ton of potential,” said FBPR President, Jose Quiles. “As a National Federation, we must promote novel ideas and adapt ourselves to change.”
Ar part of the development program, the national federation will host a workshop from 4 to 11 September at Frailes Sports Complex in Guaynabo, with male and female players from FBPR. In addition, on 14 and 15 September, a seminar will be lectured by a WBSC certified instructor.
The FBPR also announced the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee Olympic Cup, its first official Baseball5 event to be held at the Convention Center on 16 and 17 September.
“This is the first step in the expansion of Baseball5 across Puerto Rico,” said Quiles.
Puerto Rico is currently unranked in the WBSC Baseball5 World Ranking. They participated in the WBSC Baseball5 Americas Open in 2019, but the points earned in this tournament expired with the recent ranking update.
