The tournament, a warm-up for the WBSC Women's World Cup Americas Qualifier, will last through 14 May; Cuba is also participating.

The first-ever Women's Caribbean Baseball Cup has opened in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.

Three National Teams are participating in the event. Women's world No. 6 Dominican Republic, No. 7 Cuba and No. 9 Puerto Rico. Each team will face each other twice.

The three participants will use the tournament as a warm-up for the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier, scheduled this summer in Venezuela.

Puerto Rico outscored the Dominican Republic, 14-0, in the opening game.

Puerto Rico combined 12 hits. Shortstop Adrix Paradiso, third base Kiara Resto, pitcher Janiliz Rivera and first base Lisandra Berrios all enjoyed a multi-hit game.

Rivera dominated the Dominican Republic's lineup, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out six in five innings of work.

The Confederation of Caribbean Baseball (COCABE, a section of the Pan American Baseball Confederation, COPABE) is organising the tournament.

COCABE also announced that the fourth Caribbean Baseball Cup is scheduled from 4-11 December in Nassau, Bahamas.
