Puerto Rico's Double-A Baseball League opening day pushed to 13 June; record 43 teams will compete

The number of teams in the league, 43, is the highest in the last six seasons.

The Puerto Rican Baseball Federation (FBAPR, Federación de Béisbol Aficionado de Puerto Rico) announced that the semi-pro Superior Double-A League will open on 13 June. The 2021 season will see the participation of 43 clubs. This will make it the season with the most teams in the last six years.

The FBAPR decided that each team will play six Sunday's double-headers for a 12-game regular season. Clubs will then compete in the semifinals and finals in the different Divisions (best-of-five series). The qualified teams will face each other in round-robin play at the Carnival of Champions. A national best-of-five semifinal will follow and the winner will compete in a best-of-seven championship series.

"It was a successful meeting," commented José Daniel Quiles Rosas, FBAPR President. "We will now be looking for the government's permission to open ballparks to fans."
