Rafael Sánchez Melo elected Players Representative on Puerto Rican Baseball Federation Board

The Double-A League veteran slugger was unanimously elected during a meeting chaired by stellar pitcher Jean Félix Ortega. A Women's League representative will follow.

Rafael Sánchez Melo, a veteran slugger for Mets de Guaynabo of the Superior Double-A League, was elected the Players Representative of the Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBPR) Board of Directors. The players unanimously voted for Sánchez Melo during a meeting chaired by Sánchez Melo, a star pitcher for the Fajardo Cariduros.

It marks the first time in a decade that players are represented on the board.

"It's a step in the right direction," commented Sánchez Melo. "Bringing their point of view to the table, players can help the league grow."

FBPR President José Quiles Rosas announced that the Board will also welcome a Women's Double-A League representative.

"Players' representatives will greatly support the Board of Directors and may influence the clubs' decisions in the right way."
