Rick Van den Hurk named Netherlands baseball, softball technical director

In late April, the former MLB, KBO, and NPB right-handed pitcher, who represented his country in the World Baseball Classic, announced his retirement as a player.

Former Major League Baseball, Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) pitcher Rick Van den Hurk made a quick transition from the playing field to the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Federation (KNBSB) front office. Van den Hurk, who announced his retirement in late April, became the new KNBSB technical director.

"It feels like my mission to be able to share the knowledge and experience I have gained in my baseball career with the new generation of talents within the Kingdom of The Netherlands," commented Van den Hurk through KNBSB official website. "I want to translate the more than 20 years of experience I have on the field into a technical policy that fits within today's baseball and the KNBSB needs."

Van den Hurk's initial term will see him be serve as the KNBSB's technical director through the end of 2024.
