Road to Tokyo: Softball Canada sweeps four-game series in Florida

The Canadian Olympic squad defeated a Florida team in a pair of doubleheaders this past weekend.

The Canadian Olympic Softball Team recently swept a four-game series against a Florida team. The red and white team also recently swept a four-game series against the Italian Softball Olympic Team.

Canada faced a talented Florida team (with players like Puerto Rican National Team members Aleshia Ocasi and Carsyn Gordon, Jessie Warren, Aubrey Leach or Morgan Howe) at the CenturyLink Complex in Fort Myers.

On Saturday, the team managed by Mark Smith defeated the Florida club, 9-7 and 3-0. On Sunday the third-ranked team in the world grabbed a pair of one-run games, 4-3 and 9-8, to wrap-up the series. Box scores can be viewed here.

One of five nations to have participated in all four previous editions of the Olympic softball competition, Canada aims to earn the country's first softball medal at the upcoming Tokyo Games. They will open their Olympic campaign against world No. 5 Mexico on 21 July in Fukushima.
