Robert Steffy elected WBSC Oceania President

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari attended the Oceania Congress, which took place at the Guam National Olympic Committee.

Guam Baseball Association’s Robert Steffy was elected president of World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Oceania during the 2023 WBSC Oceania Congress in the National Olympic Committee Headquarters in Guam on Saturday.

Steffy, also the Secretary-General of Guam National Olympic Committee, succeeds two co-presidents of WBSC Oceania - Rex Capil of New Zealand for softball and Laurent Cassier of New Caledonia for baseball.

Capil remains on the WBSC Oceania Executive Committee, as Vice-President for Softball, while Vaughan Wyber of New Zealand was elected Vice-President for Baseball.

Australia’s Chet Gray continues his role as Secretary-General along with Inoke Niubalavu from Fiji as Executive Committee member. Tony Giles of New Zealand, Carolyn Ngiraidas of Palau and Glenn Williams of Australia start new terms on the Executive Committee.

A total of 13 federations participated in the Congress with four more joining online.

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari attended the Congress having met previously with Guam’s top officials Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio and Senator Tina Rose Muna Barnes, discussing the implementation of Baseball5 in local schools.

Two workshops were conducted from the WBSC on governance and integrity as well as the WBSC Management System and Academy along with a session organised by WBSC Oceania focused on the strategic plan of its organisation.
