WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup: Samurai Japan set to open U-12 National Team camp

Manager Hirokazu Ibata, a former NPB gold-glove middle infielder, selected the 18-player roster in a tryout that followed a digital challenge.

Samurai Japan has selected its 18-player national team roster for the upcoming WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan, Taiwan.

The participants in the tryout were the winners of a digital challenge.

Before the tryout, the 33 players underwent a physical.

Manager Hirokazu Ibata, 47, said he was impressed by the level of the tryout.

The former NPB gold glove middle infielder plans to open camp on 22 July before departing for Tainan City on 26 July.

"We cannot expect these kids to be in camp for too long, but we need some time to know each other better," Ibata said through Samurai Japan official website.

The FULL ROSTER

Ibata's staff includes pitching coach Kazuki Yoshimi and assistant coaches Motohashi Ki and Teruki Fukamizu.

Japan finished second in the last U-12 World Cup (2019).
