Sarah Goodrum promoted to Minor League Baseball hitting coordinator for Milwaukee Brewers

She reportedly becomes the first woman to serve in the position for an MLB organization.

The Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball (MLB) have named 27-year old Sara Goodrum to be their Minor League Hitting Coordinator. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Goodrum becomes the first woman ever to hold the job for an MLB organization.

"The most eye-opening thing for me is that especially with the players who are coming up now, they don’t care if you’re a man or a woman," commented Goodrum. "If you can provide them with guidance that is going to help them accomplish their dream of making it to the big leagues, they don’t care."

Goodrum added: "For me, it’s always been about showing first and foremost that I care about them. I’m going to continue to do that."

Goodrum played softball at the University of Oregon. Her senior year was 2015. She then earned a Master's degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Utah.

Since 2017, Goodrum has worked in the Brewers’ Sports Science and Integrative Sports Performance lab at the team’s training facility in Phoenix.

Earlier this month, the Boston Red Sox hired Bianca Smith as a Minor League coach, making her the first Black woman to serve as a professional baseball coach in MLB history.

MLB had the first on-field female coach last season when Alyssa Nakken signed with the San Francisco Giants. Three more women were hired as on-field coaches at the Minor League level: Rachel Balkovec (New York Yankees), Rachel Foldern (Chicago Cubs) and Christina Whitlock (St. Louis Cardinals).

The Miami Marlins hired Kim Ng as their General Manager last November, making her the first female GM in the history of the four major North American professional sports leagues.
