Schedule announced for Santiago 2023 Pan American Games baseball competition

The Pan American baseball tournament will open on October 18 with the hosts Chile taking on Mexico.

The official schedule for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games baseball competition was announced by COPABE on Friday. The Pan American baseball tournament will open on October 18 with the hosts Chile taking on Mexico in the only game of the day. 

A total of eight teams will compete in the Americas biggest multi-sport event, split into two groups. Group A includes No. 3 Mexico, No. 10 Dominican Republic, No. 11 Panama and hosts Chile. No. 6 Venezuela, No. 8 Cuba, No. 16 Colombia and No. 24 Brazil will open the competition in Group B. After the group stage, the top two teams in each group will move to the Super Round, which will decide the teams playing for the gold and bronze medals.

The tournament will be held at Centro de Béisbol y Sóftbol, Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos in Santiago de Chile from October 18 to 28. The Opening Round will run through 24 October, with the Super Round taking place on 26 and 27 October. The medal games will be staged on 28 October.

Baseball has been part of the Pan American Games since the first edition that took place at Buenos Aires 1951. At Lima 2019, Puerto Rico claimed its first-ever gold medal, defeating Canada, 6-1, in the final.
