Sheng-Zhi Wu powered Chinese Taipei to a strong start in the II WBSC U-12 Softball World Cup with a 18-0 victory against Singapore on Wednesday at Jin-Long Stadium.
Sheng-Zhi Wu had a productive day for his team, recording two runs and three hits and six RBIs, including a three-run homer in the second inning.
Chinese Taipei quickly took the lead in the opening inning when
Ya-Hsien Hsieh made the first run to the home plate on a Sheng-Zhi Wu triple to
the left field. A wild pitch sent Wu to the home plate and En-Shih Hsu to first
base on a walk, until a passed ball eventually found Hsu finishing off the run
to lead 3-0.
Wu drew three runs off his wonderful stint at the batter’s
box as he hit a homer that easily paved the way for En-Ruei Tsao and Yue-Cen Wu
to also reach the home plate to stretch the Chinese Taipei lead to 6-0.
The hosts took advantage of Singapore’s struggle on the mound and defence to log six more runs in the third inning. Yu-Yang Wu moved base after base on a wild pitch and scored on fielder’s choice. Pei-En Tsai and Tzu-Chiao Ou both scored on wild pitches, while I-Ying Shih and Tsao followed on a walk and passed ball, and Yue-Cen Wu on a ground out by Shengh-Zhi Wu, respectively.
In the fourth inning, Chinese Taipei made another huge haul of runs made by Yang-Yu Wu, Li-En Chiang, I-Ying Shih, Yue-Cen Wu, Yuan-His Tien and Yi-Cheng Liang that capped the scoring on their side, while Singapore conceded the bottom of the fourth at 18-0.
