Softball Peru National Teams set to return to the field
Members of Peru's Senior and U-23 Men’s National Softball Teams will train again after being sidelined by the COVID-19 pandemic for more than six months.
Peru's Senior and U-23 Men’s National Softball Teams are set to resume training next Wednesday, 23 September, at La Videna field, with the nation's top softball players having all been tested for COVID-19 at a lab in Lima.
The Peruvian Men’s and U-23 National Teams will start their preparation for the upcoming Pan American Championships, which serve as qualifiers for the corresponding WBSC Softball World Cup category. The training schedule includes three one-hour sessions per week.
“We’re very happy to begin with the training of the men’s national teams, to be back with the outdoor activities and leave behind the virtual training,” said Vanessa Endo, president of the Peruvian Softball Federation. “Hopefully it becomes a new beginning, a new normality with new training styles, with different health and security protocols to take care of everybody’s health.
“We decided to start in this first stage with the men’s national teams, then follow that with the women's and U-18 women’s national teams in the second stage, and finally with everybody on the field.”
Softball will become the fourth team-sport in Peru to be back on the field, after soccer, volleyball and hockey. In all, softball will be the 42nd sport to return to activities.
