Pan Am Sports has announced the competition schedule for the eight-team Cali 2021 Junior Pan Am Games softball competition. No. 2 USA, No. 4 Mexico, No. 5 Puerto Rico, No. 11 Venezuela, No. 14 Brazil, No. 30 Peru, No. 32 Argentina and No. 40 Colombia will play for gold in Barranquilla, Colombia, in the Americas’ first-ever youth continental multi-sport event.
The softball competition will be staged at Estadio de Sóftbol Edgardo Schemel, in Barranquilla, from 27 November to 2 December. After the tournament, five of the participating teams (USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Peru and Colombia) will travel to Lima to participate in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup, which will take place from 6-12 December.
The teams will open the Pan Am tournament in two groups of four squads, with the top two in each group advancing to the Super Round. USA, the top-ranked team in the tournament, will play in Group A along with Peru, Argentina and Colombia. In Group B will compete Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Brazil.
The gold medalist in the Cali 2021 softball competition will earn a spot in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
