Softball star Jocelyn Alo named Sports Illustrated Female Athlete of the Year

The member of the USA Softball National Team ended her college career as the all-time home run leader and this year won her second consecutive national title with Oklahoma in June.

USA Softball rising star Jocelyn Alo was named Sports Illustrated Female Athlete of the Year 2022 after a record-breaking season and NCAA college career. Internationally, she made her debut representing USA at the Canada Cup this year, hitting .591 (13-for-22) with 4 HR, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored.

In 2022, Alo ended her collegiate career as the NCAA all-time leader in home runs (122), slugging percentage (.987) and total bases (761), second all-time in RBIs (323) and fifth in runs (281). During the 2022 season she posted a .515 batting average, with 34 home runs, 85 RBI and 85 runs scored; becoming the only player in NCAA Division I history to bat over .500 and hit 30-plus home runs in a season.

After the NCAA season, Alo was drafted number one overall in the 2022 WPF exhibition season by the Smash It Sports Vipers, one of the teams in the recently created Women’s Professional Fastpitch (WPF). In her professional debut, Alo hit .373, with three home runs, a .427 on base percentage and .608 slugging percentage.

The 24-year-old softball player was traded to the WPF’s Oklahoma City Spark, an expansion team that will make their debut in June 2023, during the WPF’s first official season.
