The Canary Islands is a hot spot of some early European baseball and softball activity, the Royal Spanish Baseball Softball Federation (RFEBS) announced.
A women's softball tournament in Gran Canaria took place on 26 and 27 February in El Hornillo, Telde while two more softball events are scheduled in early March.
El Hornillo will host the Gran Canaria men's softball tournament from 4 to 6 March with LC Rome, Capitolinos and Magos de Tenerife the participating teams while Los Abrigos, Granadilla will host from 11 to 13 March the Granadilla de Abona men's softball tournament.
The participating teams are Tenerife, Gigantes de Valencia, Rookies de Madrid, Capitolinos de Gran Canaria, Diamantes de Zaragoza, Rome (Italy), Caballos de Barcelona.
Residents from Cuba and Venezuela will also form two unofficial teams that will participate in the event.
Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife will host the month's main event. The Spring Baseball Cup is scheduled from 14 to 20 March. The National Teams of the Czech Republic and France will play against the local team Marlins de Puerto de la Cruz, the defending Spanish champions.
