Super Round venues announced for WBSC Americas Baseball Qualifier in Florida; Tickets on sale tomorrow

The Super Round will open on Friday 4 June in The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, with the final day of the tournament scheduled on Saturday 5 June at Clover Park.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) and the Local Organizing Committee today jointly announced the Super Round venues of the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier. The two-day Super Round will open on Friday, 4 June, with two games at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. Clover Park in St. Lucie County will host the final two, potentially decisive games of the Olympic qualifier. Tickets for the four Super Round Games will go on sale tomorrow, Friday, 14 May, at www.oaqbaseball.com.

The eight participating nations will be split into two groups to start the qualifier, with the top two teams of each Opening Round group advancing to the Super Round. The Opening Round schedule was unveiled on 29 April.

  • Group A: World No. 2 USA, No. 10 Dominican Republic, No. 11 Puerto Rico and No. 15 Nicaragua.
  • Group B: World No. 7 Cuba, No. 8 Venezuela, No. 13 Canada and No. 14 Colombia.

Each National Team will play two games during the Super Round, facing the two teams advancing from the opposite group. Head-to-head contests among the qualified teams from the opening round will carry over into the Super Round standings.

WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier Schedule

The team with the best Super Round record will be declared the winner and become the fifth National Team to advance to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic baseball tournament, joining world No. 1 Japan, No. 3 Korea, No. 5 Mexico and No. 18 Israel.

The runner-up and the third-place team in the Americas Qualifier will play in the Final Qualifier, scheduled for 16 to 20 June in Taichung, Taiwan.
