Tampere wins its first-ever Finnish national baseball championship

The Tigers won the championship series -- three games to one -- with the Espoo Expos.

The Tigers are the new champions of Finnish baseball.

The Tampere Tigers claimed the Finnish Baseball League title, winning the best-of-five championship series against the Espoo Expos, three games to one. The Tigers clinched the title with a 9-2 win in Game 4 of the series. It’s the Tigers’ first-ever Finnish Baseball League title.

The Tigers took the lead in the series, winning the first two games, 8-3 and 7-3. The Expos took Game 3 on 18 September, 6-4, but then the team from Tampere clinched the title with a 9-2 win in the second game of Saturday’s double-header.

Tampere is growing into one of Finland's most development baseball-softball cities, with teams in both Finnish baseball leagues. The city also has a growing junior program and a newly started ladies softball program.
