Tanzania to host first-ever African Baseball5 Championship, qualifier for inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup

Ten teams will participate in the tournament, scheduled from 23 to 26 May in Dar Es Salaam. Two will advance to the Baseball5 World Cup, which is due to take place later this year.

The Tanzania Baseball Softball Association will host the first-ever African Baseball5 Championship at National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam. The event is scheduled from 23 to 26 May and will see the top two African nations qualify into the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup, due to take place later this year.

Ten countries are sending teams: Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Each team will have a roster made of four male and four female athletes.

Before the start of the tournament, the WBSC will run a workshop for the 10 officials assigned to the event.

Twelve countries will participate in the first-ever WBSC Baseball5 World Cup. The host nation will automatically qualify for the event, joining France and Lithuania (Europe) who were first to qualify.

Teams from the Americas (3), Asia (3) and Oceania (1) are still to be determined.

Baseball5 will be included at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
