Team Beacon (Belize City) wins Belize Women’s Softball National Championship

Team Beacon (Belize City) defeated Play Chune Girls (Belmopan) 5-2 in the final game to clinch the National Championship title. Belize Bank E-kyash Bulldogs captured third place.

Belize’s XXX National Women’s Softball Championship was held at Rogers Stadium in Belize City with a total of eight participating teams. Team Beacon (Belize City) defeated Play Chune Girls (Belmopan) 5-2 in the final game to clinch the National Championship title. Belize Bank E-kyash Bulldogs captured third place.

The eight teams were split into two groups to open the tournament: Play Chune Girls, Beacon, Crooked Tree and San Lazaro Bravers played in Group A; while Belize Bank Bulldogs, Grace Kennedy Roaring Creek, Double Head Cabbage Unity and Guinea Grass played in Group B. The top two teams from pool play advanced to the Championship Round.

Team Beacon was lead by pitcher and Tournament Most Valuabe Player Shadalee Ho. More individual awards were delivered:

  • Most Stolen Bases: Arneek Baptist (Beacon) - 7
  • Most Runs Batted In (RBIs): Sharette Vernon (Belize Bank E-Kyash Bulldogs) -  6
  • Highest Batting Average: Kelsey Robinson (Belize Bank E-Kyash Bulldogs) -  .666
  • Most Strikeouts: Ashey Lucas (Play Chune Girls) - 15
  • Most Wins: Shadalee Ho (Beacon) -3 

The XXX National Women’s Softball Championship was declared open by Brenda Johnson Gabourel - a member of the 1972 Gold Medal Belize Team at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  Johnson also threw the ceremonial first pitch.

Belize is world No. 62 in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings.
