The Global Game podcast Ep. 2: With all eyes on Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Canada’s Jenn Salling is excited to show the world how 'awesome' softball is

“I’m excited for the sport, I’m excited for individuals who had just sacrificed so much, committed their entire being, mentally and physically, into this process to be able to just give this a go, rock it on the world stage and show the world truly how awesome the sport of softball really is,” the infielder said to The Global Game, the new WBSC podcast series.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has published second episode of The Global Game - A WBSC Podcast in English. This month’s episode showcases (along with USA Baseball National Team manager Mike Scioscia) Jenn Salling, one of the leading players on the Canadian National Softball Team.

Episode two, as well as episode one of The Global Game podcast can be found on all major podcast platforms.

“It’s been such a long journey for everybody involved, over a decade since our sport had an opportunity to showcase on that big of a stage,” recalled Salling, who was part of the Canadian Olympic Softball Team that fell short of a medal at the Beijing 2008 Games.

She says she's ready for opportunity to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where there will be billions of eyeballs tuning in and following the action.

"I’m excited for the sport, I’m excited for individuals who had just sacrificed so much, committed their entire being, mentally and physically, into this process to be able to just give this a go, rock it on the world stage and show the world truly how awesome the sport of softball really is.”

Salling highlighted that softball is a fun sport to watch, it’s fast and athletic, it’s a wonderful sport. “I’m obviously very biased, but I’m excited for all the countries to get that opportunity.”

Asked by Tyler Maun, English language host of The Global Game, about Tokyo 2020, Salling focused on the attitude needed to win Canada’s first-ever Olympic softball medal.

“The only thing you can do is take care of the present moment, and if we can do that at the Olympics, and just focus on winning pitches, then winning innings and winning games, that medal is going to take care of itself.

"But if you look too far ahead, what colour is the medal, are we going to medal, and all these things, then you lose sight of the moment and it passes you by.”
