Tigres del Licey win Dominican Winter League

They defeated Estrellas Orientales in five games in the final series. Colombian catcher Jorge Alfaro earned MVP honours.

Tigres del Licey, a historic franchise based in Santo Domingo, defeated Estrellas Orientales in the final series, four games to one, and claimed the 2022-23 title of the Dominican Professional Winter League (LIDOM).

Tigres outplayed Estrellas with their pitching staff posting a 1.96 earned run average (ERA) (Estrellas 2.84) and their defence committing just two errors (Estrellas 9).

Pitchers limited the hitting somewhat with the Tigres recording a .236 batting average, Estrellas .225. Tigres proved more productive with 15 runs batted in (RBIs) (Estrellas 9).

Colombian catcher Jorge Alfaro earned MVP honours going 8-for-19 in the five games, a .421 batting average, with two home runs and four RBIs.

Alfaro, 29, has appeared in 478 Major League Baseball (MLB) games during a seven-year career. He recently signed for the Boston Red Sox.

The Estrellas lost the final series for the second season in a row.
