Tokyo 2020 Olympian Adrian Gonzalez calls it a career

The former MLB All-Star came out of retirement and played the 2021 season with Guadalajara of the Mexican Baseball League (MLB) to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics.

Adrian Gonzalez called it a career three months before his 40th birthday.

The former Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star announced his decision through Instagram.

"It's now time to continue on with my life into new and continued businesses and partnerships," wrote Gonzalez, who was born in San Diego, California, to Mexican parents. His father played for the Mexican National Team.

A left-handed slugging first baseman nicknamed El Titan, he played for six MLB organizations - Florida Marlins, Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets - from 2004 to 2018.

He appeared in 1,929 MLB games, hitting 317 home runs. His career batting average is .287. He was voted to five All-Star Games and awarded four times with a Gold Glove. He also earned two Silver Slugger awards.

Gonzalez represented Mexico in all four editions of the World Baseball Classic.

He came out of retirement and played the 2021 season with Guadalajara of the Mexican Baseball League (MLB) to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics.

He appeared in three games as the designated hitter (DH), going 3-for-11 with a run batted in (RBI).
