U-23 European Baseball Championship opens in Italy

The top two finishers of the eight-team tournament will qualify for the fourth WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, scheduled to take place in Taipei (TPE) next year.

The third edition of the U-23 Baseball European Championship opened in San Martino Buonalbergo and Verona, in the north eastern Veneto Region, Italy. The winner and the runner up will qualify for the fourth WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, scheduled to take place in Taipei (TPE) next year.

The eight participating National Teams are split into two groups:
The defending champions the Czech Republic, host Italy, France and Great Britain, will compete in group A.
Group B includes Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Ukraine.

After round-robin play, the top two finishers in each group will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for Saturday 27 August. The bronze medal game and the European Championship game are scheduled for Sunday, 28 August.
