Forty players participated in the first event. More tryouts are to be scheduled every other week.

The Uganda Baseball and Softball Association has opened the selection process for the its Baseball5 National Team.

The first tryout took place in Kampala on 12 February. A total of 40 players from the region participated in the event.

The Uganda Baseball and Softball Association plan to organize tryouts in every region of the country every other week. The goal is to select the best players and further develop the five-on-five version of baseball/softball.

Most recently, Uganda made worldwide headlines when Ben Serunkuma and Umar Male became the first Ugandan-born players to sign a professional baseball contract with an MLB club.

Uganda is No. 43 in WBSC Baseball World Rankings, the second highest-rated African country in the rankings, after No. 26 South Africa.
