U.S. Olympic Baseball Team roster revealed for Tokyo 2020 Games

Fourteen members of USA’s Olympic baseball squad have played in MLB, including two World Series champions.

USA Baseball on the MLB Network today revealed its 24-man Tokyo 2020 Olympic roster, which features players in the organizations of Major League Baseball (MLB), the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).

“We have been looking forward to this moment since baseball returned to the Olympic Programme,” said USA Baseball Executive Director/CEO Paul Seiler. “Our goal was to construct this team around a core of experienced, veteran baseball players with invaluable experience at the highest level and internationally, and we have done just that.”

PITCHERS (12) Shane Baz (Tampa Bay Rays AAA), Anthony Carter (Saraperos de Saltillo - LMB), Brandon Dickson (St. Louis Cardinals AAA), Anthony Gose (Cleveland Indians AAA), Edwin Jackson, Scott Kazmir (San Francisco Giants AAA), Nick Martinez (Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks - NPB), Scott McGough (Tokyo Yakult Swallows - NPB), David Robertson, Joe Ryan (Tampa Bay Rays AAA), Ryder Ryan (Texas Rangers AAA) and Simeon Woods-Richardson (Toronto Blue Jays AA).

Fourteen members of USA’s Olympic baseball squad have played in MLB, including two World Series champions in Jackson (2011) and Robertson (2009).

U.S. National/Olympic Baseball Team manager Mike Scioscia will once again lead the U.S. and will be rejoined on the bench by Roly de Armas (Bullpen Coach), Darren Fenster (Third Base Coach), Dave Wallace (Pitching Coach), Jerry Weinstein (First Base Coach) and Ernie Young (Hitting Coach).

Current world No. 4 USA will start the six-team Tokyo 2020 Olympic event in Group B, alongside world No. 2 Korea, the defending Olympic gold medallists, and No. 24 Israel, who will be making their Olympic baseball debut. Group A features world No. 1 Japan, No. 5 Mexico and No. 7 Dominican Republic.

USA's first Tokyo 2020 baseball game will be against Israel on Friday, 30 July, at Yokohama Stadium.

USA won the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier last month in Florida to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
