USA Baseball reveals U-18 National Team coaching staff for 2023

Veteran coaches Butch Chaffin and Jason Maxwell joined manager Michael Cuddyer and pitching coach LaTroy Hawkins.

USA Baseball announced that veteran National Team coaches Butch Chaffin and Jason Maxwell will join manager Michael Cuddyer and pitching coach LaTroy Hawkins on the 2023 U-18 National Team staff.

Maxwell led the US to their first-ever U-15 Baseball World Cup in 2018. He was the U-18 National Team manager in 2021. He serves as the head coach at Ensworth School in Nashville, Tennessee.

Chaffin first served as an assistant on the U-18 National Team staff in 2010. He was on the coaching staff of the U-12 National Team in 2017. He is serving his 24th year as the head coach at Cookeville High School in Tennessee.

"Butch and Jason are two veteran coaches who fit perfectly on our coaching staff," commented U-18 National Team director Brett Curil. "Both of these elite coaches will bring experience from the high school and international levels to combine with the professional experience already on staff. Butch and Jason both have gold-medal pedigrees, which will be essential to our world title defence, and we are excited for them to don the red, white, and blue once again."

The US are the defending U-18 World Champions. They will defend their title in the XXXI WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, to be played later this year.

The 2023 Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) League, scheduled from 26 June to 3 July, will serve as the primary identification event for the U-18 National Team.
