USA defeats Mexico behind Keely Williams’ 3 hits, 4 RBI

The US leadoff hitter had a massive offensive game, leading her team to their third consecutive win.

Right fielder Keely Williams led USA to their third win in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup with a three-hit, four-RBI game on Tuesday. USA defeated Mexico, 5-3, in an intense game played at Villa Maria del Triunfo softball stadium in Lima, Peru.

Williams gave USA the lead in the bottom of the second, with a 2-RBI single to center field. Two innings later, the leadoff hitter drove in Valerie Cagle with a single to right field, and in the sixth, she added an insurance run for USA, with another RBI single. Williams is batting .500 in the tournament.

Mexico’s first run was scored in the top of the fourth with an RBI single by Anahi Pintado. One inning later, Yanina Treviño scored on a wild pitch, and Romina Ruelas plated Lilliana Guzman.

Raelin Chaffin was the winner for USA, going 4.1 innings with 5 hits, 1 run and 7 Ks. Keagan Rothrock got a 2.1-inning save.

For Mexico, Ana Rosas pitched six innings while allowing 9 hits, 5 runs and 2 walks, with 2 strikeouts.

USA is 3-0 and leads the standings of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup along with Chinese Taipei. For Mexico, it was their second loss in as many games.
