USA Softball Women’s National Team wins Canada Cup

Attention will now turn to softball at the World Games 2022.

The USA Women’s National Softball Team clinched the title at the Canada Cup 2022 with a 5-1 championship victory over T.C. Colorado. The bronze medal went to the Netherlands, while Chinese Taipei ended in fourth place.

USA secured the title in the WBSC-sanctioned event with a 5-1 win over T.C. Colorado. With a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, Savannah Jaquish recorded two RBI in the Championship win while Carda went the distance in the circle, striking out five batters and limiting T.C. Colorado to four hits to lead USA to victory.

Starting the day in the loser’s bracket semi-final contest against the Netherlands, USA used a 7-0 victory to advance to the Championship.

The Netherlands moved to the top-three after a 7-5 win over Philippines, in the first of the three Sunday games.

USA, Canada, Mexico, Chinese Taipei and Australia will move now to Birmingham, Alabama, for The World Games, which will be played from 9-13 July. They will be joined by No. 2 Japan, No. 5 Puerto Rico and No. 7 Italy.

During the tournament, Canada legend Mel Matthews received her WBSC Softball Hall of Fame plaque and ring; while Canada's Tokyo 2020 Bronze Medal winning team was honoured on the field.
