Valerie Cagle named U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup MVP as U-18 All-World Team revealed

The pitcher tossed seven scoreless innings in the final with 13 strikeouts and four hits allowed.

Valerie Cagle was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup, which concluded Saturday afternoon in Lima, Peru. The pitcher tossed seven scoreless innings in the final with 13 strikeouts

The WBSC also revealed during the closing ceremony the U-18 All-World Team.

USA’s Alissa Humphrey was named the best right-handed pitcher of the tournament. She tossed eight perfect innings in the tournament, with two four-inning perfect games against Czech Republic and Netherlands. She struck out 11.

Mexico’s Leanna Garcia was named the best left-handed pitcher in the event. She pitched 21 innings and recorded two wins and a loss with 14 strikeouts, for a 0.33 ERA. 

The best catcher of the tournament was Chi-Yun Lin, from Chinese Taipei. She played perfect defense during the round robin, and tied as the world cup home run leader with two. She hit .438 with four RBI.

Janelle Martinez from Puerto Rico was the best first baseman of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup. The 18-year old hit .450 with eight RBI.

The All-World second baseman was USA's Rylee Holtorf, who posted a .417 batting average, with a double and four RBI.

USA’s Erin Coffel was named All-World third baseman, after hitting .550 with two homers and seven RBI.

Mexico's Yanina Treviño was named All-World shortstop. She hit .476 with two doubles and a triple. 

The three All-World outfielders of the tournament were Mariangel Barbosa of Mexico, Tatianna Roman of Puerto Rico and Kuei-Ping Yeh of Chinese Taipei.

The All-World designated player of the event was USA's Megan Grant, who posted a .500 batting average with four doubles, a triple and five RBI.
