Venezuela win U-18 South American Baseball Championship

They defeated Brazil 2-1 in the final in Salta, Argentina.

World No. 6 Venezuela defeated No. 23 Brazil in the final, 2-1, at the Estadio Popeye Béisbol Club in Salta, Argentina, to claim the U-18 South American Baseball Championship.

Heizon Sarramera went the distance for the win, allowing only three hits to Brazil while striking out eight.

Brazil connected for two of their three hits in the top of the fourth. A pair of doubles by left fielder Ian Bando and cleanup hitter Dylan Dubovik put Brazil ahead.

Venezuela, who finished 11th at this year's WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, scored all the runs they needed against starter Artur Tsujiguchi in the bottom of the fifth, thriving on a costly two-out error with runners at first and second.

The hosts and No. 30 Argentina beat No. 42 Peru, 9-5, in the bronze-medal game.
