Venezuela wins U-14 Americas Baseball Championship, defeats Mexico 10-6; Nicaragua bronze

Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, host Nicaragua and Venezuela participated.

MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Venezuela defeated Mexico, 10-6, in the finale of the U-14 Pan-American Baseball Championship to capture the gold medal at Dennis Martinez National Stadium and before a nationally televised audience via Canal6 this past Sunday.

The gold medal victory generated a buzz in Venezuela, produced by coverage of such national media giants as noticias24.com and La Radio del Sur, and Venezuela’s Ministry of Sport – and in Mexico via Yahoo! News.

Sunday’s gran finale completed a perfect 7 wins versus 0 losses record for the young Venezuelan National Team, including two wins over world No. 13 Mexico and No. 14 Brazil.

Venezuela, which defeated No. 4 Chinese Taipei to earn the bronze medal at the U-15 Baseball World Cup this summer in Sinaloa, Mexico, is the world No. 10.

In the bronze medal match, host Nicaragua defeated Brazil, 11-8.

The participating nations of the U-14 COPABE Americas Championship, which was contested across 20 games from 27-September to 04-October, were Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, host Nicaragua and Venezuela.
