Venezuelan Baseball Federation launches umpire camp

The camp runs from 28 February to 13 March in Barquisimeto.

The Venezuelan Baseball Federation (FEVEBEISBOL) has invited all its umpires to the Venezuela Umpire Camp, scheduled in Barquisimeto from 28 February to 13 March.

Miguel Hernandez, the Umpire Commissioner of the Venezuelan Professional League, is the director of the camp.

"We recently featured with certified umpires and trainees at the XX Juegos Nacionales. It was a great experience," commented Hernandez through FEVEBEISBOL website.

"We have a great working team at FEVEBEISBOL," he added. "Technical commissioners, umpires and scorers are doing a great job. I do believe there is still room for improvement."

Hernandez spoke about the growth of the number of female umpires in Venezuelan baseball: "Maite Buyones, who has international experience, started her umpiring career with our c9u8uggamp. We also have Anabel Gonzalez and Genesis Tua. We had a few female trainees at the Juegos Deportivos."

On a final note, Hernandez praised the term of Aracelis Leon as FEVEBEISBOL president: "She made huge changes and improvements. Under her term, baseball has gotten back to the level our national sport deserves. Umpiring is part of these improvements."
