Venezuelan Professional Baseball League inaugurates new seaside stadium in Macuto

The 14,300-seat seaside stadium, which has an artificial turf, took nearly seven years to complete.

The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP, Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional) held its first official game at the new Estadio Forum de La Guaira on 29 November.

The seaside stadium -- which is 400 feet to dead center and 337 ft in the corners -- is located in the city of Macuto, about 30 kilometres north of Caracas.

The ballpark can seat 14,300 fans and is owned by the State of La Guaira. Construction began in 2013 and a formal inauguration happened on 5 January 2020.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro praised the new ballpark through his Twitter account.

The Estadio Forum will serve in the future as the home of the LVBP Tiburones de La Guaira. It is currently being used as one of the bubbles during a 2020-21 season, which has been heavily impacted by COVID-19 restrictions.

The first night game played in the new venue saw Leones de Caracas beat Caribes de Anzoátegui in extra innings on 17 December.

The Leones, originally Cerveceria Caracas, hosted the very first night baseball games played in Venezuela in 1940 at the San Agustín Stadium.
