The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) is pleased to announce the nine WBSC eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS players who will compete in the Finals of the inaugural Olympic Esports Series 2023 in Singapore from 23 June. The 10th player from the host country Singapore will be determined from the final qualifying event, which will be held in Singapore on 18 June, 2023.
Qualifiers were held as part of the Olympic Esports Series 2023 in March and April for players both in Japan and globally with eight qualification spots on the line for a place in the Finals, which will take place during Olympic Esports Week from 22-25 June at the Suntec Centre in Singapore.
The Japan Qualifier Final was held at the esports GINZA studio in Tokyo on 8 April 2023 following an online qualification round with Tomoki Noguchi – “Daylami”, Takato Fujishima – “fujito”, Hiroki Horiike – “TAIJYU”, and Kazutaka Machida – “antimon” all booking a place in the Finals.
In the Global Online Qualifier 1st, Nintendo Switch player Jacob Park – “KangGang” from USA and PlayStation player Wei-Chung Yu – “Hazuremon” from Chinese Taipei qualified. They were joined by two Chinese Taipei-based players from the Global Online Qualifier 2nd Chia-Ming Wang – “CMWANG” qualifying on the Nintendo Switch and Po-Yao Hsu – “DoubleBass” Hsu on PlayStation.
The Olympic Virtual Series 2021 winner Shoma Mori – “SHORA” was already guaranteed a place in the finals of the Olympic Esports Series 2023.
Following the release of the official WBSC video game in conjunction with Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. in February, WBSC eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS was named by the International Olympic Committee as one of 10 official sports for the first Olympic Esports Series.
Nearly 30,000 participants played WBSC eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS during the Japan and global qualifiers as part of the Olympic Esports Series 2023.
