WBSC and Mondo to work together for Baseball5 development

The new agreement between the WBSC and Mondo will see the delivery and installation of a state-of-the-art field of play for the WBSC Baseball5 showcase during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, which is taking place at the AOMI FAN PARK from Tuesday 24 August to Sunday 5 September 2021.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today announced a partnership with Mondo S.p.a., the Italy-based leading sport flooring manufacturer, for the development of Baseball5.

The agreement will see the delivery and installation of a state-of-the-art field of play for the WBSC Baseball5 showcase during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in the Sport Initiation Zone.

“Mondo is possibly the best partner for Baseball5. They have a great tradition of producing the highest quality in sports flooring while also boasting an extensive Olympic experience. Mondo is also a very innovative company which fits the image of our new discipline.

"The WBSC is looking forward to establishing a longstanding partnership with Mondo and we are thrilled by the opportunity to showcase the urban five-on-five version of our sport together,” said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari.

“We like to develop specific solutions for new and upcoming sport disciplines and welcomed the opportunity to create a field using our Sportflex M product for the World Baseball Softball Confederation to present the innovative Baseball5 project.

“Joining the Paralympic family is an honour for Mondo, as we share the mission and vision to help shape a more inclusive society and make sport accessible to anybody who wishes to enjoy it,” said Maurizio Stroppiana, Mondo Sport Division General Manager.

The five-on-five urban baseball/softball discipline will be demonstrated at the Tokyo 2020 sports initiation zone, which is taking place at the AOMI FAN PARK from Tuesday 24 August to Sunday 5 September 2021.

Requiring only a ball to play, Baseball5 will make its Youth Olympic Games debut at Dakar 2026 in Senegal, Africa as the first ever mixed-gender team sport.
