Japan's PONY branch pushes baseball development in Vietnam

PONY is one of the world's biggest youth baseball and softball organizations.

PONY (Protect Our Nation's Youth), a WBSC Associate Member, is trying to contribute to baseball development in Vietnam.

Jin Matsubara, a member of Japan's House of Representatives and also chairs PONY's Japanese branch, recently spoke on the subject at a ceremony in Tokyo. There Matsubara officially gifted baseball gloves and balls to Vu Hong Nam, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan.

Matsubara added that his organization is willing to send instructors to Vietnam in order to develop players, coaches and umpires.

Ambassador Nam confirmed that baseball is developing among teenagers and that about 10 schools have baseball teams.

Matsubara and Nam signed a memorandum of understanding for further cooperation.

PONY has been a member of WBSC since October 2017.
