WBSC baseball equipment package arrives in Micronesia, used in Olympic Solidarity course

The WBSC package - consisting of 135 gloves, 24 softball bats, 30 baseball bats, 24 helmets, 12 catcher-gear sets and 18 gear bags - was sent to Fiji in 2021 for distribution throughout the Oceania region.

The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Baseball & Softball Federation is pleased to have received a World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) equipment package consisting of baseball gloves, which are being used in a Development of the National Sporting Structure (DNSS) course run under the auspices of the Olympic Solidarity programme.

The Fiji Islands Baseball & Softball Association (FIBSA) development officer and recently elected WBSC Oceania Executive Board member Inoke Niubalavu is conducting the course and brought the baseball gloves with him after a WBSC package - consisting of 135 gloves, 24 softball bats, 30 baseball bats, 24 helmets, 12 catcher-gear sets and 18 gear bags - was sent to Fiji in 2021 for distribution throughout the Oceania region.

Secretary general Jake Scaliem accepted the donation on behalf of the FSM Baseball & Softball Federation and was "very grateful for the gesture as the glove will be useful during the DNSS visits in Pohnpei, Chuuk and Kosrae".

Mr Niubalavu will stay in FSM for three months to conduct baseball, softball and Baseball5 clinics for coaches and athletes. He will also conduct activities in schools for children and their teachers.

"The donation is part of the legacy of the success baseball/softball enjoyed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics," Niubalavu said. "The equipment will also to be shared amongst other countries in the region by the end of 2023."

Baseball was one of nine sports featured at the Mini Pacific Games last year, which was won by Northern Mariana Islands.
