WBSC Baseball5 World Cup - Amazing action and results complete Day Two afternoon session at El Zócalo

Cuba, Tunisia, South Africa, Kenya, Venezuela and Japan won their afternoon matches to put themselves in a good position for Day 3.

The WBSC Baseball5 World Cup just keeps on giving with the battle to become the first ever WBSC Baseball5 World Champion growing in intensity with three tiebreaker and two extra innings games highlighting an amazing second day of action at El Zocalo in Mexico City on Tuesday.

Following an impressive morning session, the afternoon programme on Day 2 started with a comfortable win for the World Title candidate, Cuba, against Lithuania. The Caribbean country won two matches (7-1, 13-1) to improve their record to 2-0.

After that Tunisia kept building their stellar tournament with an unexpected win against Korea. The African team won the first match 3-0 and the second 4-1 to become the pleasant surprise of the tournament.

The first win for South Africa came against Hong Kong. The African champions won the first match 3-0 and then picked up a 5-1 win, to register their maiden victory in a World Cup.

Two tight contests come after that. First Kenya registered a historic first win against France where the European champions started with a good win 5-4 but not without a scare as Kenya pulled back from 5-1 down with two runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth before France claimed the crucial out with Kenya runners on.

The reverse happened in the second match as Kenya stormed to a 4-0 lead after three innings before France pulled back to 4-3. Only a great double play from Harry Kilivwa extinguished France's comeback and took the game to a tiebreak, which Kenya went onto win 8-4.

Two strong tournament candidates faced each other on Zócalo 2 where Venezuela and Chinese Taipei met. Venezuela won the first match 2-0, then Taipei took revenge in the second 5-4 to take the game to a tie break which Venezuela ended up winning 5-3 in arguably the best game of the tournament so far.

After beating Lithuania under lights on the opening night, hosts Mexico closed the day against Japan, another tournament candidate, on centre court with the Asian powerhouse enjoying a pleasant win 4-3 in the first match and 5-1 in the second.

With these results, Cuba and Japan lead Group A with two wins from two games while Tunisia and Venezuela have the same record on top of Group B.
