WBSC Baseball5 World Cup - Day Three: Cuba and Venezuela remain undefeated, first teams to book spot in Super Round

Cuba and Venezuela claimed victories in Day 3 afternoon session at the Baseball5 World Cup to remain the only undefeated teams. Earlier in the day, Lithuania claimed historic win over Japan in a game which also featured three female officials on the court at the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup for the first time.

Two out of the six Super Round teams have been confirmed after day three action at the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup on Wednesday at El Zocalo in Mexico City with pre-tournament favourites Cuba and Venezuela booked their spots with their fourth win from as many games.

Cuba proved too good for hosts Mexico with star player Briandy Molina, in particular, in devasting form scoring eight out of Cuba's 31 runs in the game as they put on a masterclass, winning their Group A clash 21-0, 10-0. Earlier in the day, Cuba beat Hong Kong 12-3, 10-0.

Cuba's run differential is an impressive +80 over four games with Chinese Taipei next best with +26 and Venezuela +18.

Venezuela had a scare in their morning game against Kenya taking the first match 2-0 before Kenya claimed the second 5-3 after an extra innings. Venezuela's defence came to the fore in the third match, taking it 5-0 to move to three wins from three games.

The Caribbean side also started slowly in their second game of the day, needing an extra innings in the first match against Korea before winning 5-4, 7-1 to top Group B.

The afternoon session started with France claiming their second win of the tournament to even their record 2-2. The European champions won two matches with the same score, 4-3, against Tunisia to keep them in contention for the Super Round.

Lithuania kept building their Cinderella story after beating Hong Kong in two matches. The European runner-up won the first one 10-3 and the second 6-2 to even their record 2-2.

In the afternoon's third game, Chinese Taipei enjoyed a pleasant win against Kenya. The first match was an 8-0 win for the Asian Champions and then a 7-2 win in the second.

Japan returned to the winner's column against South Africa, winning the first match 3-0 and 8-5 in the second. With a 3-1 record, Japan is in a great position to secure a spot in the Super Round.

All that was left at the end of Day Three was the two undefeated teams to take the field and claim their fourth wins against against Mexico and Korea.
