WBSC holds Baseball5, scoring, umpiring seminars in Uganda

Uganda Baseball and Softball Association (UBASA) organized a seminar for scorers, umpires and coaches, with the support of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). The seminars took place at Kyambogo College School, Kampala, Uganda, from 15-17 February.

Uganda Baseball and Softball Association (UBASA) organized a seminar for scorers, umpires and coaches, with the support of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). The seminars took place at Kyambogo College School, Kampala, Uganda, from 15-17 February.

A total of 10 umpires and 11 scorers participated in the seminar. The umpires were reminded of the umpire equipment and materials, umpiring systems, positioning on the field and signals; while the scorers were taken through the score sheet, scoring situations during the games and how to capture them on the score sheet. The Seminars were intended to improve the standard of baseball softball umpiring and appreciate the importance of scoring and how to record on the score sheet during the game.

From 16-17 February, 16 coaches were were introduced to the basics of Baseball5, the new WBSC urban discipline, including hitting techniques, offensive strategies and the different Baseball5 rules. The seminar aimed to improve the technical skills of the local coaches to continue develop the discipline in the East African country.

Uganda organized a four-team Baseball5 event at the National Baseball Stadium in Gayaza in April last year, introducing the street discipline in the country for the first time.
