WBSC Premier12 2019 All-World Team DH Brent Rooker makes MLB debut

The 25-year old prospect wasted no-time after his call-up to to "the show", getting his first hit and RBI in his second appearance.

The Major League Baseball (MLB) Minnesota Twins had a lot of expectations for their top prospect, Brent Rooker, as he was called up from the club's alternate training site.

Rooker had just one at-bat in his debut in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday, 4 September. In the second game, he was again in the lineup and got his first hit and RBI, helping the Twins beat the Detroit Tigers, 4-3. Rooker has appeared so far in four MLB games. He has three hits, including one double, and three RBIs over 11 at-bats.

Rooker was the starting right fielder for the US National Team at the WBSC Premier12 2019. He appeared in seven games and had six hits, including three home runs, over 20 at-bats. He was voted as the designated hitter of the 2019 WBSC All-World Team.

Rooker was born in 1994. He played collegiate baseball at Mississippi State University and was selected as the 35th overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in the 2017 Amateur Draft. He signed for a US$ 1.935 million bonus and made his professional debut in that season. He appeared in 259 Minor League Baseball (MiLB) games over three seasons, including 65 at the Triple-A level, before being promoted to the Major club. He racked up 54 MiLB home runs, including 14 in Triple-A.
