With the completion of the first day of Super Round, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Puerto Rico secured the top 4 spots in the tournament and became the first qualified nations to the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2021.

Puerto Rico 0-2 Mexico

Danielle O’Toole pitched a great ballgame today and guided Mexico to a crucial win over Puerto Rico, 2-0, and make a giant step in their way to Tokyo 2020. Mexico was outhit by Puerto Rico 7-5 but delivered a pair of clutch hits early in the game to take a 2-run lead, enough for O’toole to clinch the win. Mexico improves to 3-0 in the Super Round and is one step closer to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Venezuela 0-11 Canada

Kaleigh Rafter and Jennifer Gilbert homered for Canada in an 11-0, four-inning victory over Venezuela, in the first day of the Super Round. The host team delivered a total of 13 hits in its three offensive opportunities, and with this score have secured one of the four available spots in the next WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup.

Cuba 5-6 Mexico

Brazil defeated Cuba today in a wild 9-inning thriller to secure its qualification to the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2021 and remain in the hunt of the Olympic Games. Thalia Da Silva scored the walk-off run in the ninth on a grounder to second base.
