WBSC supports Blind Baseball development in Hungary

Instructors from the Italian Blind Baseball Association introduced seven coaches and seven visually impaired athletes to the fundamentals in Hungary.

The WBSC partnered with the Italian Blind Baseball Association (AIBxC) to help develop the discipline in Hungary. The project is supported by the Hungarian Baseball and Softball Association (MOBSSZ, Magyar Országos Baseball és Softball Szövetség). The ERD baseball team collaborated locally.

The AIBxC delegation to Hungary was led by Franco Buttignon. Valerio Ranieri, Giacomo Reina and Michele Bianchi were the envoy coaches.

The instructors held a course for seven local coaches and introduced seven visually impaired athletes to the fundamentals of blind baseball.

The ultimate goal would be forming a blind baseball team in Hungary.

AIBxC, led by the late Alfredo Meli, introduced blind baseball to Hungary in 2004, taking to the central European country an exhibition game played by two Italian teams.

The 2021 season of the Italian Blind Baseball League (LIBCI) has reached, in the meantime, its semifinal stage. The two semifinals are scheduled for 25 and 26 September. Below you find the programme:

Lampi Milano @ Patrini Malnate
Leonessa Brescia @ Fortitudo Bologna White Sox

The winners will compete for the Italian championship in the final, scheduled for 2 October in Bologna.
