Chinese Taipei and USA swept their doubleheaders on Tuesday, taking the lead in the standings with perfect 3-0 records.

Chinese Taipei and USA swept their doubleheaders on DAY 2, Tuesday, to take the lead in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup standings with perfect 3-0 records. The Asian squad defeated Puerto Rico and the Netherlands, while USA topped Colombia and Mexico. In the final game of the day, Czech Republic clinched their first win with a strong pitching performance by Katerina Kindermannova.


Czech Republic 8-0 Peru - Box Score

Katerina Kindermannova collected a tournament-high 14 strikeouts to guide the Czech Republic to an 8-0 win over host Peru. Kindermannova pitched the Czech squad to the victory only allowing two hits and two walks in six innings of work.

The Czech Republic scored twice in the third frame, including an RBI single by Magdalena Kavanova, to take the lead. Kindermannova worked with a two-run lead until the top of the seventh, when the European champions exploded for six runs, highlighted by a bases-loaded inside the park home run by Marina Burkovicova.


Mexico 3-5 USA - Box Score

Right fielder Keely Williams led USA to their third win in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup with a 3-hit, 4-RBI game. USA defeated Mexico, 5-3.

Williams gave USA the lead in the bottom of the second, with a 2-RBI single to center field. Williams, the leadoff hitter of the US U-18 National Team, is hitting .500 for the tournament.


Netherlands 5-11 Chinese Taipei - Box Score

Chinese Taipei swept their doubleheader Tuesday with an 11-5 victory over the Netherlands. The Asian squad connected 15 hits in the game.

Ching-Yu Chen was the starting pitcher for Chinese Taipei and the winner of the game. She tossed 5.1 innings while giving up five hits, three runs and two walks, with one strikeout.


Colombia 0-8 USA - Box Score

World No. 2 USA claimed earlier Tuesday their second win in the tournament, an 8-0 victory over No. 40 Colombia in five innings. Karli Spaid led the way in the US line-up with a three-run homer in the first inning.

USA scored five runs in the first inning, incluiding Spaid’s bomb to right field. Errin Coffel, Viollet Zavodnik and Megan Grant had multi-hit games for USA, collecting six of eight US hits.


Puerto Rico 0-4 Chinese Taipei - Box Score

A masterpiece by starting pitcher Hsia-Ai Ke kept Puerto Rico off the scoreboard and gave Chinese Taipei their second win in the tournament. The Asian squad defeated Puerto Rico, 4-0, in the first game of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup day 2. The right hander struck out four while allowing four hits and a walk, in a complete game performance.

Chinese Taipei scored their first two runs in the fourth frame, and added two more on an RBI-triple off the bat of leadoff hitter Hsin-Yun Li, who then scored on an RBI single by Yi-Hsuan Chiu.
